Abstract ================================ There are significant developments in structure determination from powder diffraction (SDPD) technique in last decade. In this paper, three major methods of SDPD, direct method, charge flipping and direct-space searching are briefly reviewed. The direct method has been used for single-crystal studies, but now easy-to-use programs specially designed for SDPD are available, making the direct method for SDPD easier than ever. The charge flipping method introduced recently has ability comparable to that of the direct method, and further progress is expected. The direct-space searching method is time consuming, but could be last resort when all others fail. This method is able to effectively utilize structural information provided by other techniques. Solid state NMR is best suited for this purpose, and such example is also given. Demonstrations of representative programs for these methods, EXPO2014, Superflip and FOX, are given.
